This article will shed some light on elementals throughout history, and give you some tips on how to go deeper with your understanding of elementals. elénìní Elemental spirits that block human growth, they are usually generated by interalized fear. Elementals, spirits of earth, air, fire, and water, are an enduring part of many ritual forms, especially in modern witchcraft. Ayélalà The collective Spirit of Ancestral Mothers. These spirits tend to the elements as caregivers under the direction of Mother Nature (spirit) and are usually invisible to the human eye. This spirit is a guardian over a specific element, such as water, fire, earth, and air. These nature spirits of the astral worlds of course have bodies of astral matter, and they frequently form mischievous or other impulses and change the appearance of these bodies. Aronimoja Spirits of the forest, elemental spirits. A nature sprite or elemental spirit doesn't have a benevolent or malevolent motivation. Nature spirits are said to work in unsuspected ways, sometimes lending their aid to human beings in the form of certainįaculties, while those in the astral world are engaged in the creation of form out of the matter that the outpouring of the Logos has quickened, hence they form minerals, flowers, and other aspects of nature. At the head of each class is a deva or inferior god. There are countless hosts of them, divided into seven classes, which, allowing for two unmanifested forms, belong to the ether, air, fire, water, and earth -the last four being called by followers of the Kabala, sylphs, salamanders, undines, and gnomes respectively. According to Theosophy, nature spirits have bodies composed of the finer kinds of matter. ![]() The other synth that uses the free‑running oscillator technology is a recreation of the Juno 6 - a synth of such devastating usability that it helped to define what an affordable synthesizer could (and should) be. If I want to create split or layered Jupiter 8 sounds I will simply turn to Analog Lab V ( see 'Analog' box). Would I revert to Jup‑8 V3 to retain these? No, not a chance. Secondly, V4 lacks the Split and Dual modes of its predecessors and its original inspiration. There are many new modulation features, many of which are very welcome, but Galaxy is gone. Firstly, it’s not backward compatible so you’ll have to re‑program your existing patches, and some - such as those that used the now discarded Galaxy modulator - may no longer be possible. Nonetheless, there are two caveats to Jup‑8 V4. The sooner that Arturia ports these technologies to any other products that could benefit, the better! After 14 years, Jup‑8 V4 is the soft synth that its predecessors had always promised to be. But I soon abandoned the experiment because there was no point V4 sounds so much better than V3 as to make such comparisons pointless. To test the impact of these changes (and others that there’s no space to describe) I loaded Jup‑8 V3 and V4 simultaneously with the intention of creating identical patches on each and performing a few A/B tests. Once programmed, the dispersions are constant because the developers found that adding further random variations to the amounts didn’t emulate the original behaviour, but they’ve told me that this is something that they are looking to model in the future. The first three buttons allow you to select three factory preset degrees of variation, or you can program your own dispersion model and select this using the Custom button. There are six dispersion parameters - oscillator pitch and pulse width, filter cutoff and resonance, contour time and modulation depth - and these allow you to determine the amounts by which each voice can differ from the others in each of these ways. ![]() In addition to the free‑running oscillator algorithm (which is invoked when the oscillators are independent and when they are sync’ed but, for mathematical reasons, not when cross‑mod is used) V4 also includes a new Voices Dispersion panel with four associated buttons. While the main row of synthesis controls remains largely unchanged, much else is so different that, not long after I started testing it, I decided that V4 is a different synthesizer rather than an update. Turning first to the new version of Jup‑8 (shown above), the differences between V3 and V4 proved to be far more significant than I had expected. Even at that stage it was clear that this was going to be a big step forward, so I was delighted when I heard that it was going to make its debut in V Collection 8 as part of an improved Jup‑8 V4 and the new Jun‑6 V. Shortly after I reviewed Arturia’s OB‑Xa V (in SOS August 2020 issue) I received an email from the company’s engineers that described their new, ‘free‑running’ oscillator technology, as well as links to two prototypes that incorporated various implementations of this. This meant that you obtained a collection of different, but tonally static notes when you played chords, no matter how long you held them. Secondly, there was no drift once the offset was applied. Indeed, if the oscillators’ phases happened to be 180 degrees apart, any given note could sound an octave higher than played. Firstly, if the oscillators were tuned to the same pitch, each note’s tone could be significantly different from the previous and the next. If the synth in question used two oscillators per voice, the problems with this method were twofold. ![]() Introduced in the noughties, this was the company’s method of emulating the drift of analogue oscillators by applying a random offset to their initial phases when you played each note. ![]() Today, V8 adds four new instruments as well as two upgraded ones, plus a new version of Analog Lab, new sound libraries and further enhancements including macros, improved housekeeping and integrated tutorials.īefore looking at the instruments themselves, I would like to discuss something that, in my opinion, Arturia never got right in the past. In recent years, Arturia’s V Collection has grown into a substantial resource, with emulations of numerous monosynths, polysynths, samplers, pianos, organs and other keyboards, the original of any one of which (with the possible exception of the CZ1) would cost more than the whole collection. V Collection 8 introduces new instruments and completely reworks some old favourites. ![]() ![]() ![]() However, getting parity with the previous version proved to be more than was expected so the new version only works with the latest cameras. Someone at Canon got the bright idea to do a whole new DPP from the ground up that had much better support for things like printing, soft proofing, adjustments and more. While the user interface does stink, the quality of the algorithms under that ugly UI are very powerful. In fact, most people never bother to even install DPP off the disc so many don’t even know it exists. It’s a crude and nasty UI that you’ll be tempted to dismiss. Recent updates have added support for easily updating lenses without having to get a whole new version of DPP. Digital Photo Professional (DPP)ĭPP comes in the legacy version, DPP 3.x and under, which supports nearly every CR2 file Canon has made. In the case of Canon, they are trying to map to your Picture Styles. The default is Adobe Standard which simulates Adobe’s ideal, but “camera” processing styles are designed to loosely mimic how your camera process images. The develop tab allows you to tweak those settings, but Adobe also reverse engineers these files to try to create something you’d like as a starting point for your editing process (in the Camera Calibration section – see the “Process” option). Lightroom uses Adobe Camera RAW (ACR) to convert your raw data in a CR2 file into something you can see and use. As a result, you’ll often fine that the in-camera RAW processing is very different from software processing – especially if the software is getting updated regularly. This raw processing is burned into the firmware of your camera and it will only get updated if something significant warrants a change. Even if you “only shoot raw” you see this image as the thumbnail to your RAW file and it’s the data that the camera’s histogram that you see is based on. This is when the raw data is converted in-camera and applies all of the editing settings like color space, picture style, white balance, etc… to give you the image you see on the rear LCD panel of your camera. In-Camera JPEG (downsized in Photoshop, watermarked by Zenfolio) If you haven’t done this exercise on your own already, I’d encourage you to do so! Default in-camera JPEG While this article is Canon specific the same concepts apply to any camera that creates a RAW image that is supported by computer based software and/or Adobe products. This is actually an exercise I do time to time anyway because as software and firmware gets updated, the processing changes often yield different results (not always for the better). To make things more interesting, Canon actually has two versions of its Digital Photo Professional (DPP) software floating around for legacy reasons, so I was curious as to the result I’d get using what amounts various different conversion techniques. A reader was recently asking me about RAW vs JPEG for a Canon workflow and in the process of replying to those series of emails, I had an ADD moment.įor fun I started comparing the RAW conversion of a Canon CR2 raw file using the latest RAW conversion software from Adobe and Canon as of November 3, 2015. ![]() Media player, blu-ray media player, play blu-ray disc, play blu-ray folder, play blu-ray iso file, play bd-j disc, play dvd disc, play dvd iso file, blu-ray software, 1080p, video, movie, blu-ray, software, dvd media playerġ.Fix a problem that the msvcr120.dll is missing on certain computers.2.Fix a problem that the disc menu background does not display when playing back the 4K Ultra HD Bluray sources in certain cases.3.Fix a problem that the HDR alert does not show up when playing back the 4K Ultra HD Bluray source.ġ. If you’re not careful, you can be inundated by high volume feeds, and your RSS reader can become less of a tool for discovery and more of a method to hack through the ever-growing weeds. I was working as a journalist when I first started using Google Reader, and I subscribed to a wide variety of feeds that I thought would make me more well-informed. Email comes from work, creates obligation, and makes you feel guilty. In retrospect, making RSS feeds look like email was a terrible idea. It’s perhaps ironic that Google Reader helped popularize RSS, considering the sheer horror of its interface design. The execution of that concept took a while to find its proper form. What’s not to love? You get to hand-pick a series of feeds that will then send you articles to read, and instead of piling up around you, like magazines and newspapers of yore, the articles magically disappear after you read them, replaced by a fresh batch. I found it depressing whenever anyone suggested that RSS was dying because I honestly think it is one of the greatest inventions in the history of reading. In the world of RSS apps, it’s very difficult to choose the best. Still, other RSS apps - like Fiery Feeds and lire - provide more pro-level features and greater support for the newest RSS services and features from services like Inoreader or Feedly. Classic RSS apps like Reeder have never gone away and Reeder still processes feeds faster than any other RSS app to date. This being said, RSS presents multiple opportunities for different types of news consumers, and Unread mainly excels in the reading department - if you’re looking for a fast way to process your RSS feeds, Unread quickly falls short. That’s why our pick for the best RSS reader for iOS is Unread, an app designed to help you slow down, lean back, and enjoy good writing. In the midst of this RSS revival - or perhaps “awakening” is a better term - we believe slowing down, being conscious of the news you’re consuming, and consuming high quality writing are key to a great reading experience. In the wake, RSS is seeing another revival of sorts. Social media today, however, is undergoing a sort of crisis, as users flock away from the privacy-destroying platforms. Instead of finding and producing news for a blog or site, many folks pushed content discovery and creation into the worlds of Facebook and Twitter. RSS went through something of a lull in the early and mid 2010s due to the closure of Google Reader and the rise of social media. In a way, you could use RSS to bring the web to you. Suddenly, you could read the entire Internet comfortably on the couch. RSS arguably had its perfect device when the iPad was introduced in 2010. ![]() Spatting has become a common practice in many sports where additional support, to restrict motion in the ankle and prevent sprains, is needed.
